This trend is increasing by almost 1% per year and is now affecting 1/3 of our children. This serious illness has a multifactorial etiology directly linked to several chronic conditions. It is rarely treated as an individual disease. The Weight Loss Program presented at The Fitness Principle with Mackie Shilstone promotes the learning of new habits and lifestyle changes which provide permanent results. Our mission is to improve health by promoting healthy lifestyles and thereby reduce the risks of preventable diseases. Your lifestyle, attitude, and nutrition have played a major part in allowing you to put on weight - now they also play a major part in developing changes in your habits that help you to lose weight successfully and keep it off permanently.

Comprehensive Weight Loss

Renowned fitness expert Mackie Shilstone developed this outstanding program based on his book, The Fat Burning Bible. This award-winning book is featured in such programs as the 12-week series, HealthCops and the USA Today Weight Loss Challenge. The focus of the Weight Loss Program is teaching you to recognize the causes of your weight problem and teaching you the proper techniques, lifestyle changes and personal exercise programs that will help you take off and keep off the excess weight that is compromising your health.

This 3 month comprehensive program brings together all of the necessary elements for successful weight loss. Our unique program is divided into five phases designed to chart your progress through out the program and make any needed adjustments along the way.

Phase One: Application

  • Complete application
  • Obtain physical from doctor or we can provide one for you
  • A Fitness Principle staff member will call to determine your needs
Phase Two: Assessment
  • Physiological testing - Meet with one of our certified fitness experts to determine your physiological status using the following:
  • Metabolic Study - determines your individualized metabolic rate. Our nutrition staff will then develop an eating plan for you based on how many calories your body actually burns per day instead of basing your nutritional needs on a formula which can be inaccurate.
  • Cardiovascular Assessment  - includes a pulmonary function test, rest and exercise ecg, peak heart rate, VO2 max and anaerobic threshold. Our training staff will use these numbers to develop an individualized cardiovascular and circuit training program to ensure maximum fat burning during your workouts.
  • Body Composition - determines your body’s amount of lean mass and fat mass. These numbers help us set realistic and obtainable goals for your program. Your body composition will be rechecked at the end of your program to check progress.
  • Nutritional Assessment - Meet with our sports and lifestyle nutritionist to assess your current diet and develop a realistic meal plan using your metabolic rate as a guideline for caloric intake. Your baseline measurements will be taken at your initial visit and will be remeasured every 4 weeks to evaluate your progress.
  • Lifestyle Challenge - Meet with your trainer and develop your lifestyle plan.
Phase Three: Training
  • Mackie Shilstone’s Pro Circuit: Meet with your trainer 3 times per week to learn proper form, technique and heart rate monitoring using workout principles featured in Mackie's book The Fat Burning Bible. You will also receive instruction on cardiovascular training, learn pelvic stabilization exercises and proper stretching techniques.
  • Meet with Mackie to discuss and review your progress and testing results.
Phase Four: Completion
  • During final weeks of your program, you will begin preparing for completion by:
    1. Final body composition
    2. Final nutritional consultation
    3. Lifestyle Assessment - Meet with your trainer to discuss progress and how we can help you continue on your path to a healthier lifestyle.

If you would like to continue your training after 3 months, phase two is available.
