
The Breastfeeding Center is dedicated to providing information, educational programs and assistance with breastfeeding needs. This support is available throughout the breastfeeding experience. As part of Woman & Child Services at East Jefferson General Hospital, the Breastfeeding Center is staffed by registered nurses with advanced training and Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultants. Breastfeeding information and support are available 7 days a week through the Breastfeeding Center at 504-454-4323.

The Breastfeeding Center offers ongoing classes on a variety of breastfeeding topics:
- How to get started breastfeeding
- The breast and how it works
- Preventing breastfeeding problems
- Working outside the home and breastfeeding
Personal Consultations
One-on-one consultations addressing individual needs are available for both inpatient and outpatient mothers at the Breastfeeding Center.
Consultations can address:
- Personalized plans for the breastfeeding mother who works
- Breastfeeding follow-up when questions or needs arise
Breastfeeding Supplies/Rentals
Breast pumps are available for purchase, or shortor long-term rental through the Breastfeeding Center. Offering personalized instruction and guidance, the Center can meet your needs with a full assortment of breastfeeding supplies. These services and supplies may be covered by your insurance plan.
