We appreciate your interest and hope this list of requirements for being considered for an interview prior to the MATCH is helpful:
- Must be registered through the National Resident Matching Program or the National Matching Service for osteopathic applicants and apply through ERAS (we do not accept mailed, faxed, or e-mail applications).
- Our program DOES NOT sponsor/accept any visas or EADs (work authorization documents).
- Our application deadline is January 15th.
- Completion of medical school training must be within the past THREE YEARS.
- Dean’s Letter plus three individual letters of recommendation. These should come from faculty, preceptors, etc. At least one letter should be from a board certified family physician.
- Passing scores required on USMLE Steps I & II and must have no more than two failures on all parts taken to be considered. Scores must be obtained prior to February 1st.
- International Medical Graduates must be able to obtain a valid ECFMG certification and a Louisiana intern permit by the start of residency training on July 1.
- If medical school training was completed greater than one year prior to the application, a minimum of one year of CONTINUOUS AND CURRENT CLINICAL (direct patient) experience in the United States at the time you submit your application to our program is MANDATORY. Observerships and/or research experiences DO NOT fulfill this requirement.
Our program is interested in candidates who wish to enter Family Medicine, and our Recruitment Committee will scrutinize your application for evidence of an interest in this field.
General Information:
- The Family Medicine Residency along with Podiatry are the only residency
program at East Jefferson General Hospital and are non-competing.
- The EJGH Emergency Department is one of the
busiest in Louisiana
- There are 6 resident positions for each post-graduate
year
Pay Scale:
- PGY1=$42,000
- PGY2=$43,000
- PGY3=$44,250
- Moonlighting is allowed for 2nd and 3rd year
residents
In-House On Call:
- First year in-house call averages to every 4th
night; every 5th - 6th night for second years
- While on in-house call, all meals are free;
meals are discounted by 20% when not on in-house call
- 3rd year residents do not take in-house call;
they take outpatient call from home
Paid Time Off:
- 3 weeks annually for PGY1
- 4 weeks annually for PGY2 and PGY3
- Residents follow holiday schedule of EJGH except while on inpatient service
Other Benefits:
- Reimbursement is provided for educational classes
(BLS, ACLS, and PALS.) and exams (Step 3 etc.)
- CME funds available in years two and three
- Residents are given privileged parking in the
physicians parking lot-first floor for easy access
- Call rooms are private; Internet access and
basic cable television are provided
- The maximum number of consecutive hours worked
is 30 (including call)
- There are daily noon conferences; lunch is usually provided
- The clinic is linked to the hospital and parking
deck by enclosed walkways
- 3 monogrammed lab coats are provided
- Palm pilots are provided to all residents
- Health & Dental Insurance available; hospital pays major portion & resident pays minor portion, Dependant coverage also available.
