Becoming a Volunteer
Joining our volunteer team is easy. Simply follow these steps:

• Fill out an application.
  Applications are available in the Volunteer Services Office, located on the first floor of the hospital, or can be mailed to your home. To request a copy by mail, call 504-454-5548. You can also click here to apply online.
  
  
• Complete an interview.
  Once your application is received, a Volunteer Services team member will contact you to schedule an interview. The interview is your opportunity to tell us about your abilities and interests. This information helps us match you with a department that will benefit from your skills, and where you can make the most of your talents.
  
  
• Attend orientation.
  All volunteers must attend an orientation session before beginning their assignments. Orientation is your introduction to the hospital, its team, and your fellow volunteers. You'll learn about hospital policies and standards, as well as our expectations of you as a volunteer.
  
  
• Get medical clearance.
  Adult volunteers must submit a physician's clearance to join the volunteer program. You must also make an appointment with the Volunteer Services health nurse to have a TB skin test.
  
  
• Make a commitment.
  Volunteers must commit to one four-hour shift per week for a minimum of six months.

Junior Volunteers Opportunities
East Jefferson General Hospital offers students a means of meeting their schools' community service requirements and the opportunity to learn more about careers in healthcare. Junior volunteers must have completed the eighth grade and must make a commitment of 50 hours of service per year. Like adult volunteers, juniors must fill out an application, complete an interview and attend an orientation session. For more information click here.
