Louisiana's First Magnet Hospital
East Jefferson General Hospital has been named Louisiana's first
Magnet hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
The overall goal of the ANCC is to identify the institutions that
act as a "magnet" by creating a work environment that
recognizes and rewards professional nursing. It means that your
community hospital upholds high standards of patient care.
The Magnet Nursing Services Recognition Program for Excellence
in Nursing Services was developed in 1994 to recognize healthcare
organizations that provide the very best in nursing care and support
professional nursing practice. The program also provides a vehicle
for sharing successful practices and strategies among nursing
systems.
For patients, the program provides the ultimate benchmark to measure
the quality of care they can expect to receive. Achieving this
status creates an effect beyond the nursing department that filters
into the entire healthcare team.
East Jefferson General Hospital's Magnet application process spanned
19 months and included more than 2,000 pages of documentation.
Certified ANCC surveyors visited the hospital twice to view the
facility and interview nurses, physicians and team members from
areas throughout the hospital.
